Hathaway Calls Alleged Con Man "The Love of My Life"
Anne Hathaway, who recently appeared alongside Steve Carrell in Get Smart, called the man who she was seeing for more than three years, "the love of my life."
Which isn't that big of a deal, if you forget the fact that he's currently being charged by the federal government with wire fraud and money laundering that could send him to jail for a long, long time.
"You were the love of my life," Hathaway told Follieri by phone on June 23, according to sources that overheard the conversation and are now talking to Vanity Fair. "I'll always love you. You know that, baby."
Follieri was later (and by later, I mean that day) arrested for cheating investors out of millions of dollars (which he allegedly spent on lavish gifts for himself, his friends and Hathaway) by saying that he had connections all the way up through the Vatican.
The article, which can be found in the new edition of Vanity Fair that is currently out on newsstands, also says that Hathaway paid the $37,000 rent on Follieri's apartment building in Manhattan's Olympic Towers for four months.
Follieri is currently awaiting trial in the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York City because he was unable to post the hefty $21 million bail.
