Hathaway's Ex Won't Catch a Break

Though Raffaello Follieri's attorney pushed for leniency in the judgment of his case, prosecutors are asking the judge to throw the book at him.

In a plea to convince the judge to issue a lighter sentence to actress Anne Hathaway's ex-boyfriend, Raffaello Follieri, he showed the judge the same photos of himself with the Pope as he sent to the numerous investors he is accused of swindling by leading them to believe they could buy Catholic Church property for cheap, according to the Associated Press.

Prosecutors urged the judge on Monday to impose the harshest sentence on Follieri, which would mean a stint in federal prison for four years.

Prosecutors also said Follieri was trying to continue his exploitation of his photos of himself with the Pope by sending them to the judge in hopes of a lighter sentence. Prosecutors said these were the very same photos Follieri used to con investors out of millions of dollars by convincing them he had close ties to the Vatican.

"This is surprising because Follieri used these same photographs and connections in order to defraud investors and now seeks to use them in an effort to obtain a reduced sentence," the prosecutors said.

The 30-year-old pleaded guilty last month to charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering. He agreed to forfeit $2.4 million.

Follieri's attorneys asked the judge for a three year sentence.
