Hayao Mayazaki’s follow up to Ponyo might be a sequel to Porco Rosso; a movie about an ace fighter pilot cursed to live with the face of the pig.
In an interview with Cut Magazine, Hayao Mayazaki said that he’s planning a sequel set during the Spanish War to be titled Porco Rosso: The Last Sortie. The decision to make a sequel to this particular movie has some people scratching their heads since this is one of Mayazaki's least popular films.
In the interview, Mayazaki confesses that the idea of the sequel is a "hobby of an old man," but he says he has all the materials necessary to do it, should he decide to go ahead with the project.
Mayazaki also says that the future of this film and some of the other movies he intends to conceive depends, to a great extent, on the financial fate of Studio Ghibli. The studio’s fate depends in part on the success of The Borrower Arrietty and the films to follow.
