HBO's "In Treatment' renewed for a third season

Fans of the HBO drama "In Treatment" will be delighted to learn that the series has been picked up for a third season.

According to an article on HollywoodReporter.com, "Star Gabriel Byrne is set to return as Dr. Paul Weston, with casting on the other roles expected to begin shortly.Anya Epstein (HBO's ‘Tell Me You Love Me') and Danny Futterman (‘Capote') are joining the therapy-themed drama as executive producers/co-showrunners.'"

Production on the show's third season will start in New York in early 2010 and is set to premiere later in the year.

But, the third season of "Treatment" will be missing a key player in the ensemble production team and cast of the show that has garnered three Emmy nominations. Warren Leight, who was an executive producer as well as a showrunner in the second season of the series departed in July.

The HollywoodReporter.com article then mentions a formidable obstacle facing the renewal of "Treatment, "Also complicating the pickup decision was the fact the Israeli series on which the HBO show is based only ran for two seasons, so a third season had to be written from scratch."

Despite this seemingly interminable hindrance, HBO's West Coast President Michael Lombardo's outlook for the upcoming season is optimistic as he stated his elation at the network for having the series and his belief that "Treatment" is "the kind of show that could only flourish on HBO."

The HollywoodReporter.com article concludes with, "Returning executive producers on are Stephen Levinson, Mark Wahlberg and Hagai Levi. Paris Barclay also is expected to return as an executive producer/director. Noa Tishby and Gabriel Byrne serve as co-executive producers."
