Heath Ledger's last film might not have ever been completed

Not having him for the remainder of shooting almost canceled "Parnassus"

Terry Gilliam almost canned "The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus" because he felt they could not continue after Heath Ledger's death in January 2008. Friends and family convinced him to complete the film, and now, three top actors, Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell, are to play Ledger's character during certain scenes of the film.

The movies is about a mysterious troop of actors led by Doctor Parnassus, played by Christopher Plummer, who has a magical mirror that transports a person to their own imagination. He made a deal with the devil to get that mirror, and therefore immortality, but at a high price. The story and amazing visuals seem to be something out of a Lewis Carroll book.

When Ledger died in 2008, he had already completed all the scenes outside of the Imaginarium, so for the remainder of the scenes, Depp, Law and Farrell play Ledger’s character. The movie is due out in theaters across the country Jan. 8.
