Heath's Insurer Agrees To Pay Out Policy To Matilda
Heath Ledger's daughter is finally going to get the money she deserves a year after her father's accidental death.
According to EOnline, the insurance company in charge of the $10 million policy and payout has been denying payment for a year. The company just now reached a settlement with Ledger's estate.
Minnesota-based insurance company ReliaStar Life Insurance Co. didn't want to hand over the large sum of money to Ledger's two-year-old daughter, despite a coroner's ruling that Ledger's death was an accidental prescription drug overdose. The company suggested that the death was a suicide, which would void the payout.
However, on Wednesday one of Ledger's estate attorneys, William M. Shernoff, informed Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Luis A. Lanvin that the two sides had reached an agreement.
"We're pleased that we were able to reach an amicable settlement of the dispute," Shernoff told E!. He declined to release any information as to the financial details of the confidential deal.
ReliaStar confirmed the deal as well, and was also reluctant to discuss any details concerning it.
The deal will be keep quiet, as Shernoff requested of the judge. The next hearing is scheduled for February 23, the day after the Oscars.
