Hell's Kitchen chef wins libel suit over UK reality show

Gordon Ramsay and UK TV executives won a settlement over a London newspapers' libelous claims printed last year.

World class chef and reality- show extraordinaire Gordon Ramsay, and makers of his UK TV series "Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares" was awarded a libel settlement yesterday for newspaper claims that the show faked scenes to make restaurants in the show look worse than they were.

The show, which featured failing restaurants that Ramsay was supposed to help turn around, exhibited many kitchens that violated public health standards. The show ended up tarnishing the reputations of many of these restaurants, which subsequently went out of business.

The London newspaper "The Evening Standard" published an article in 2005 alleging that these hazards were "faked."

Ramsay and managing director of Optomen Television Patricia Llewellyn accepted the settlement at the High Court in London.

Ramsay, 39, is quoted as saying after the hearing: "I won't let people write anything they want to about me."
