High School Musical 2 Soundtrack Takes Number 1 Spot on the Charts

Disney's cult hit, "High School Musical 2" tops the music charts.

The soundtrack to Disney's record-breaking hit, "High School Musical 2," has taken the number one slot on The Billboard 200, selling 615,000 copies. According to Nielsen SoundScan, it is the fourth highest selling soundtrack since sales tracking began in 1991. It joins the ranks of "Titanic," "The Bodyguard," and "8 Mile." "High School Musical 2" also ranks second for the year of most sales in its debut week, behind Linkin Park's "Minutes to Midnight," which sold 623,000.

The soundtrack boosted sales of related projects, such as Disney's Miley Cyrus and her alter ego Hannah Montana's latest release, as well as the "Hairspray" soundtrack, featuring HSM2's star, Zac Efron. Disney's other major act, The Jonas Brothers, hit the charts at number at eight with their debut.
