Hilary Duff's Parents in Bitter Divorce Battle
Former Disney star Hilary Duff is turning 21 next month, but her parents are at odds as to who will shell out the big bucks for a proper celebrity soiree.
According to the Houston Chronicle, Duff's parents have been engaged in a 2? year bitter divorce battle, and now her mother, Susan Duff, is insisting her soon-to-be ex-husband, Bob Duff, pay for the former Lizzie McGuire star's upcoming 21st.
Susan took the stand to ask for $25,000 for a present and party for Duff's September 28 birthday. Susan said it is the same sum she and her husband spent on a ring and a party for older sister Haylie Duff when she turned 21 a few years ago.
Susan was asked if her "adult millionaire daughter" would be upset if she did not receive a gift and party for her birthday.
She said Duff is "emotionally upset by the abandonment of her father" and deserves to "have some kind of recognition for a young life well-lived."
"I know he's a millionaire, and he's got the funds," she said.
She accused Duff's father of buying lavish presents for his girlfriend's sons, adding to the courtroom drama.
Bob was sentenced to 10 days in jail for contempt of court and he must pay $367,537 to the court repository for selling stocks last month without court approval.
The judge also ordered a payment of $12,500 to Susan for Hilary's birthday.
Apparently, Hilary will have to settle for a 21st birthday blowout only half as extravagant as that of Haylie's.
