Hit Me, Britney, One More Time at the VMAs

Since we didn't get enough of her at last year's VMAs, the recovered pop star will open this year's VMAs, but she wasn't invited to sing or dance.

After Britney Spears's rep denied last week that the pop star would be performing at the MTV Video Music Awards this month, the network has confirmed that the pop tartlet will be kicking off the show, according to the Associated Press.

But no, Spears is not getting paid to sing or dance after last year's lackluster performance.

So what will the rehabbed singer be doing, exactly? The network has remained tight-lipped so viewers will more than likely have to tune in to find out, but on Wednesday, MTV Networks Music Group President Van Toffler said that Spears would do something "fun and unexpected."

Spears hit a low point in her career at last year's VMA ceremony when her widely publicized comeback performance of "Gimme More" became little more than a train wreck and led to the singer becoming a laughing stock.

Spears was excited to reunite with the award show.

"MTV has played an important role in my career. How can I not be there to kick off their 25th VMAs? I'm excited to open the entire show, to say hi to my fans and to be nominated," Spears said in a statement.

Spears is nominated for Video of the Year for "Piece of Me."
