Hollywood and Twitter, Dead or Alive?

Speculation is arising over whether Twitter's explosion in Hollywood is the best or worst thing that has happened for the microblogging site.

The very same day that Ashton Kutcher becomes the first to collect 1 million followers, Oprah makes her very first tweet, according to CNN.

Bloggers and Twitter users are involved in a newly heated debate over the long lasting capability of Twitter. Now that the site is inundated with celebrities and media, some are starting to question the ability of the site to maintain this far-reaching interest.

"The challenge for Twitter—besides, of course, getting a business model in place to handle the infrastructure required to sustain this kind of growth—is going to be maintaining the fact that it's the community at large, not the celebrity users, that's the core of this service," commented one blogger about social media.

Meanwhile, others like Andrew Cherwenka, contributor for the Huffington Post, believes that the addition of such celebrity status is bringing Twitter mainstream. "It's a big milestone," said Cherwenka. "A lot of people are saying this is going to be the death of Twitter, and I don't understand that at all. It's just another stage in Twitter's acceleration."

Not only celebrities like Kutcher have developed superstar following. CNN breaking-news feed was right behind with 998,239 followers when he broke the record of 1 million.
