Hope Davis to Portray Hillary Clinton in HBO drama

Hope Davis takes role as former first lady after Julianne Moore relinquishes role.

Actress Hope Davis has agreed to take on the role of Madame Secretary, Hillary Clinton, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Davis will play an earlier, lesser known Hillary Clinton when she was first lady alongside Bill, played by Dennis Quaid, in the HBO film "The Special Relationship." The movie captures the drama and complications that rocked the Clinton family during the Monica Lewinsky scandal and looks at the close friendship between President Clinton and British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

Julianne Moore was originally set to take the role, but was forced to back out due to scheduling conflicts, leaving the coast clear for Davis. Davis, who has had film roles in the past, is currently on stage for the Tony-award winning Broadway play "God of Carnage" alongside "Sopranos" mob boss James Gandolfni and actor Jeff Daniels.

The film was scripted by British screenwriter Peter Morgan (Frost/Nixon, The Queen) and is set to begin production in late July.
