Seth Gordon, the director of Horrible Bosses, has signed on to direct Universal’s Identity Theft, a comedy that will star Melissa McCarthy and Jason Bateman.
Deadline reports that the film, whose story was originally developed by Jerry Eaten, was originally supposed to have two lead actors, with one stealing the identity of the other. The production always had its eyes set on Batemen, who starred in Horrible Bosses, but Bateman saw McCarthy’s performance in Bridesmaids and immediately wanted her for the film.
According to Slash Film, Identity Theft’s script has been rewritten by The Pursuit of Happyness’ Steve Conrad and Craig Mazin, who worked on The Hangover Part II.
The film will start shooting in April, once Mike & Molly takes its summer break.
McCarthy continues to prove to be a hot commodity, after being winning an Emmy for Mike & Molly and being nominated for several critics awards for Bridesmaids.
As for Gordon, his work also includes the 2007 documentary The King of Kong. Deadline reports that he is also directing the remake of War Games. Horrible Bosses, which also starred Jennifer Aniston and Kevin Spacey, grossed a total of $209 million worldwide. The Hollywood Reporter reported that a sequel for the film is in the works.
