Is 'How to Make It in America' the New 'Entourage'?
HBO has always been seen as one of the best networks in Hollywood. They created such hits as The Sopranos, Sex and the City, and the vampire drama, True Blood. They’ve also created such acclaimed films as the recently released biopic, Temple Grandin, and this year’s Golden Globe winner, Grey Gardens, among others. The network has always been praised for its original work and has consistently collected more Emmys, Golden Globes, and SAG awards than any other network. Adding to the channel’s pedigree of hit series, the new How to Make It in America premieres this Sunday night.
According to The Washington Post, however, HBO’s newest show seems to fail at meeting the standards set by the network’s classic hits. Also produced by Academy Award nominated actor Mark Wahlberg, the reviewer believes that America is too similar to HBO’s long running Entourage. While the latter centers on a group of friends in Hollywood, the former is about a similar group who aspire to launch their own line of jeans in the Big Apple. In place of A-list actors in cameos, high end fashion designers will make guest appearances on the show.
