How to Make the "Vogue"

The documentary, The September Issue, which premiered at Sundance on Saturday, follows Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour during the production of one issue of the magazine, the L.A. Times reports. Turns out Meryl Streep, whose character was based on Wintour in the 2006 movie, The Devil Wears Prada, wasn't that far off. Wintour comes off as pretty harsh and cold, and working for her seems to be "a death by a thousand cuts," Chris Lee writes.

The documentary was directed by R. J. Cutler and depicts the making of the September 2007 issue - the most important issue of the year, revenue-wise.

After the screening, both Cutler and Wintour took the stage to answer questions. Wintour said she was proud that the hardships of the magazine business were accurately depicted but disappointed the charitable efforts of Vogue were not shown.
