H.S. Thompson To Go Out With a Blast
Writer Hunter S. Thompson, who was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound on Sunday, left a final wish behind: to have his ashes shot out of a cannon. Thompson's wife, Anita, and son, Juan are looking into the logistics of the venture. Fireworks expert Marc Williams claims a cannon would shoot the ashes 240 meters high and spread the ashes over a 180-meter radius.
Thompson's family believes that his suicide was not done in haste, but was rather planned out for some time, probably due to his ailing health, though they had no hint that he was suicidal. Thompson left no note.
In a statement, Thompson's widow and his son said: "Though we will miss him bitterly, we understand his decision. Let the world know that Dr. Hunter S. Thompson died with his glass full, a fearless man, a warrior."
