Hudson to join the "Sex and the City" crew

Award-winning actress Jennifer Hudson will be starring in the upcoming movie "Sex and the City" alongside Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, Kim Cattrall and Cynthia Nixon, who are the four gals that made the television series an HBO hit.

Hudson will reportedly play personal assistant to sex columnist/fashionista/main character Carrie Bradshaw, played by Sarah Jessica Parker, reports Variety.

Variety also reports the film will be a New line film in association with HBO. The show's executive producer, Michael Patrick King is set to write and direct the film, as well as produce with Parker, John Melfi, and Darren Star, the original creators of the series.

Ladies, the notorious "Mr.Big" will be hitting the movie scene also. Actor Chris Noth, who played " Mr. Big" will return to star in the movie.

Shooting begins in New York September 19.
