Attention fans of the ultimate romantic comedy, Bridget Jones’s Diary! You will be happy to know that plans to start production on the third movie, Bridget Jones’s Baby, are still afloat. After much speculation that Hugh Grant had dismissed the project, it was recently confirmed that he is, in fact, set to appear in the film.
Grant was reportedly unhappy with the script and did not want to go through with the third installment. The chairman of Working Title, Tim Bevan, put these rumors to rest.
“Reports that Hugh Grant has exited Bridget Jones’s Baby are untrue,” Bevan said.
According to Bevan, the script needs more adjustments before production can officially begin. It is no surprise that they are taking the time to perfect this script. Grant, one of the film’s biggest stars, bashed the sequel Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason and admitted that his co-stars were unhappy with it as well.
“I think Bridget Jones two was a mistake, to be honest with you,” the British actor told BBC News in 2009. “It wasn’t a very good script and I resisted it for a long time, so did Colin and so did Renee. And we got kind of conned into making it.”
Despite their disappointment with the second film, Renee Zellweger (Bridget Jones) and Colin Firth (Mark Darcy) will join Grant (Daniel Cleaver) for another attempt to revive Bridget Jones. Hopefully the third time is a charm!
