Idol Finale Ratings Same as 2007's
After a season that saw its ratings shrink (like almost all of the other shows this season), the ratings for the American Idol finale seem to be even with last year's finale.
A hefty 31.7 million viewers tuned in, according to the Hollywood Reporter, defeating last year's finale, which saw Jordin Sparks defeat Blake White, by 900,000.
Where Idol somewhat struggled Wednesday night was in the highly valued 18-49 age range, which was down a small one percent, registering an 11.4 preliminary rating.
The finale, as TheCelebrityCafe.com reported, was won by rocker David Cook. Cook defeated his main competition throughout the season, David Archuleta, by 12 million votes. A number that was surprisingly high given that Idol judge Simon Cowell declared Archuleta the winner the night before.
But, nevertheless, Cook now receives a recording contract and $250,000, and American Idol receives a boat load of advertising revenue from those who appeared on the show (Ford, Coke, Mike Myers' new movie, Disneyland and many, many others).
