Idol Gives Back
Idol Gives Back, ratings juggernaut "American Idol's" way of giving back to the people, is set to air over Tuesday and Wednesday. The producers of "Idol" have come up with something a little different this week: singing and a charity event. The plan is for the six remaining Idol hopefuls to sing "life anthem" songs, with viewers voting for the favorites. The twist is that each call-in will feature a donation from a corporation. The show's audience can also contribute by calling in on toll-free lines or by using the internet.Guest stars abound for the special event: Il Divo, Josh Groban with the African Children's Choir, Keira Knightley, Gwen Stefani, Jack Black, Annie Lennox, Quincy Jones, Celine Dion, Helen Mirren, and Earth, Wind, & Fire are all set to show. Also making the list are past "Idols" Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood. It is even said that Bono himself will be popping in to meet with the finalists to chat about ONE: The Campaign to Make Poverty History. The finalists will also perform a song co-written by Bono and David Stewart, "American Prayer."
"Idol Gives Back" is intended to help raise awareness and funds for the new Charity Projects Entertainment Fund, as well as other organizations focused on relief programs for impoverished kids. Proceeds will benefit children in need in America and Africa.
