Before Chris Medina won his golden ticket to Hollywood on American Idol, he only had eyes for his girlfriend of eight years, Juliana Ramos. He fell in love with her the moment he met her and proposed in 2007 at the coffee shop where she worked.
The couple were to get married two years after their engagement. Tragically, Ramos got into an accident on October 2, 2009, shortly before they were to wed, leaving her with a brain injury. She is currently confined to a wheelchair.
On the date they were to wed, Medina penned a song with lyrics such as, “I’m giving all I’ve got to give/To Pull You through/To set you free/More than the vow/‘Through thick and thin’/I’m living it/In your darkest hour, I will be your light.”
Medina appeared Wednesday on American Idol’s Milwaukee auditions where he sang The Script’s hit single “Breakeven.” He won over the judges. They asked Medina to bring in his fiancée and family where they broke the happy news.
New judge Steven Tyler said to her, “I just heard your fiance sing and he’s so good, you know, ‘cause he sings to you all the time, I could tell. Love that.…That’s why he sings so good – because he sings to you.”
Medina’s story touched many viewers including one rocker, The Script’s Mark Sheehan, “Chris Medina: Not only R U a major talent but U R 1 in a billion! Stay Strong, Never waver, This world needs more MEN like U. Peace+Love,” he wrote on Twitter.
Since the audition, Medina has continued to care for his fiancée. A source tells Access Hollywood, she “is constantly improving. Crossing milestones all the time.”
