Ike Turner: Died of Cocaine Overdose
After his mysterious death on December 12, Ike Turner's rocky career in the limelight has ended in a suitably shocking manner -- according to ABC.com, a January 16 coroner's report states that the main cause of Turner's death was a cocaine overdose. The talented musician and producer, aged 76, had long suffered substance abuse problems, which resulted in a drug-related arrest and prison sentence back in the 1980s.
Although he met acclaim in 2007 with his Grammy win for LP "Risin' With the Blues," Ike Turner remains best known for his tumultuous relationship with songstress diva Tina Turner. Their relationship was rife with claims of drug and physical abuse brought against him by Tina and immortalized in the 1993 film "What's Love Got to Do With It?"
Turner was also suffering from emphysema and hypertensive cardiovascular disease at the time of his death, which complicated his cocaine overdose, leading to fatal levels of cocaine toxicity in his body.
