Imax To Distribute Four Paramount Films in 2011

Imax shares are rising, and so is the number of Paramount films that will hit the big-screen this year.

IMAX and Paramount Pictures agree to release four films on the giant-screen in 2011, which will be Paramount’s biggest commitment to the Imax format, reports The Wall Street Journal.

The movies will be Super 8, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Mission: Impossible-Ghost Protocol and The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn.

“Consumer demand for the Imax experience has never been higher,” Paramount Vice Chairman Rob Moore said.

The increasing number of Imax screens and growing interest from filmmakers is what makes this transaction a key component of the release strategy.

When shareholders heard about the Imax-Paramount deal, Imax stock went up 3% to $27.60 and Paramount stock climbed to $41.24.

Super 8, a sci-fi film directed by J.J. Abrams, comes out June 8; Transformers, the third film of the series, debuts July 1; Mission: Impossible, the fourth film in the series, appears on the big screen Dec. 16; and Adventures of Tintin hits the Imax Dec. 28.
