An independent feature called "The Mulberry Tree," which will be directed by Mark Heller of the U.K., has added three new stars to its cast.

Joe Morton, who starred in 1991's "Terminator 2: Judgment Day," Daniella Alonso, who starred in 2007's "The Hills Have Eyes II" and has appeared on the NBC sports drama series, "Friday Night Lights," and John Fiore, who starred in the 2000 Robert DeNiro/Ben Stiller comedy, "Meet the Parents" and appeared on the HBO original mafia drama series, "The Sopranos," are joining the cast of this indie feature.

According to an article on HollywoodReporter.com, "Louis Crugnali wrote the script and also stars in the drama about a Italian-American family based on his experiences growing up near Providence, R.I., and working in the state corrections system."

As for the plot of the movie, it tells the story of the meeting of Mickey Crugnali and Sam Morton, a convicted killer who is dying of AIDS and attempts redemption in his final days on "hospital leave" by striking up a dialogue with Crugnali about his own family matters.

The HollywoodReporter.com article goes on to say, "Alonso . . . plays Morton's long-lost daughter who strikes up a friendship with Mickey, and TV vet Fiore ('Brotherhood') plays Mickey's father."

The film will be shot in Providence, Rhode Island and is being produced by former casting director Russell Gray, who was the casting director for several episodes of "Sex and the City," and Michael DeLiso. The movie's financing will be split between private equity and Rhode Island tax incentives.
