Invitation for President Bush to Visit Iranian University
Roughly one week after Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad visited Columbia University in New York, while attending the U.N. General Assembly, an Iranian University invited President Bush to do the same. Ferdowsi University President, Alireza Afshour stated that Bush could answer students' questions about the Holocaust, terrorism and human rights. "That is what President Ahmadinejad did, despite the lack of respect shown towards him," Afshour announced.
Iranian media and politicians have reacted angrily to the way President Ahmadinejad was treated during his Columbia University visit.
Spokeswoman Dana Perino stated that the invitation to President Bush was not being taken too seriously. "If Iran was a free and democratic society that allowed its people freedom of expression, and wasn't pursuing nuclear weapons, and wasn't advocating to destroy the country of Israel, the president might consider that invitation," she stated.
