Isla Fisher As A "Shopaholic"

Actress Isla Fisher talks about her latest role

Isla Fisher may play a girl obsessed with shopping in the upcoming comedy "Confessions of a Shopaholic," but she admits that the character Rebecca Bloomwood is nothing like her.

Fisher told the Los Angeles Times, "I'm not anti-shopping, but I shop rarely and poorly." So how does she believably play a character who can't say no to an opportunity to spend?"

Fisher said that she chose to view Becky Bloomwood as a woman who believes that her selfishness is for the greater good. She said, "I kept thinking of how in 'Streetcar Named Desire' Blanche DuBois says, 'I just wanted to make the world more beautiful.'"

She talks briefly of her experience checking out a meeting for over-spenders, saying that it was depressing and not at all funny. The movie, however, is very funny, thanks to Fisher.

Jerry Bruckheimer, the film's producer, says, "She reminds me of Lucille Ball and Carol Burnett because of her great timing."

"Confessions of a Shopaholic" comes out this Friday.
