This Is It Soundtrack Tops U.S Album Chart
The "This Is It" soundtrack took the top spot on the U.S pop albums chart on Wednesday. This is Michael Jackson's sixth No.1 on the Billboard 200. It is also his best sales week for an album since "HIStory" which was released in 1995 and opened at No.1 selling 391,000 copies.
According to Neilson SoundScan the "This Is It" soundtrack has moved 373,000 units in its first week. It was only expected for the album to sell between 300,000 and 350,000 copies.
The coinciding "This is It" film grossed $104 million during its first weekend of worldwide release. The film contains rehearsal footage for what would have been his final tour in London.
Jackson's 2003 greatest hits set "Number Ones" is the largest seller in the U.S this year. Michael received his first No.1 in 1993 with his album "Thriller".
Following Jackson on the Billboard 200 chart is reunited rock group Creed with "Full Circle" at the No.2 spot and Taylor Swift's "Fearless" at No.3.
