It's Funny Until Someone Gets Hurt

Comedian behind Bruno sued for in-character hi-jinks

A California woman on the receiving end of one of the pranks masterminded by Sacha Baron Cohen, the comedian behind such outrageous creations as Ali G and Borat, is suing Cohen, NBC Universal and others after she was hospitalized and confined to a wheelchair following one of the comedian's stunts, reported MTV. According to Fox News, Richelle Olson, executive director of Desert Valley Charities, claims Cohen misrepresented himself as a celebrity when he appeared in the guise of Bruno, the comedian's notoriously flamboyant Austrian fashion reporter character, at a 2007 charity bingo game run by Olson.

The suit alleges Cohen used vulgar language when calling numbers at the event, reported MTV. When Olson tried to take the microphone away from Cohen, a struggle allegedly ensued in which Olson was allegedly knocked to the ground and "attacked" when three of Cohen's cameramen rushed the stage, according to Fox. MTV wrote Olson then left the room "sobbing uncontrollably" before collapsing and hitting her head, the suit alleges.

Olson's lawsuit claims she was admitted to the hospital with two "brain bleeds," confining her to a wheelchair and walker since the incident, according to Fox. Olson is suing for unspecified damages including "loss of marital relations," reports MTV.

According to MTV, representatives for Cohen have not been reached for comment on the suit.
