Rocker Jon Bon Jovi is celebrating his birthday today. He turned 49 today, and not only is he a singer but he is also a prolific songwriter and musician. John Francis Bongiovi was a military brat born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey to parents who were in the Marines.
He gravitated to music when he was in his early teenage years, as he would skip school to get involved in all things music. He played in a few bands and worked the club circuits when he turned 16 before he took a job at his cousin's Power Station studio where he helped to clean floors.
It was while at the studio that Jon's cousin Tony recommended that he sing on a compilation called "Christmas in the Stars: The Star Wars Christmas Album" which was Jon's first recording. Three years later Jon was offered a record deal and the rest, as they say, was history.
Jon went on to form his own band called Bon Jovi and they commanded the music scene with songs such as "You Give Love a Bad Name", "Livin' On A Prayer", and "Wanted Dead or Alive". The album was no doubt a top selling one and their follow-up CD was also a scorcher as it produced songs like "I'll Be Here For You" and "Lay Your Hands on Me" to name a few.
Jon also embarked on a solo career and was also successful at that as well. His song "Blaze of Glory" for the movie Young Guns II won many awards and was nominated for both Academy and Golden Globe awards.
Jon still tours with his band and is also a political activist.
