It's Official! Chace Crawford on "Footloose"

Chace Crawford is putting on his dancing shoes for "Footloose" remake.

After weeks of speculation, Paramount confirmed on Tuesday that Chace Crawford was cast as the male lead for the remake of the Kevin Bacon dance drama "Footloose", Entertainment Weekly reported.

The "Gossip Girl" actor will play Ren McCormack, the rebellious high school student who loves to dance. "High School Musical" start Zac Efron bowed out of the role because he didn't want to be typecast.

"High School Musical" director Kenny Ortega will direct the film, which is set to begin shooting in March 2010.

Crawford's leading lady has not been cast yet. Miley Cyrus is the latest to be considered for the part, according to E! Online. "Heroes" star Hayden Panettiere, "What I Like About You" actress Amanda Bynes and Julianne Hough are reportedly also being considered.
