It's splitsville for Weezer

Weezer frontman announces on MTV news that the band is quitting after 13 years together

After five albums and 13 years together, Weezer is breaking up and this time, it may be permanent, E! Online reports.

"Really for the moment, we are done," Weezer frontman River Cuomo told MTV News. "And I'm not certain we'll ever make a record again, unless it becomes really obvious to me that we need to do one." Cuomo says he has been spending his time writing songs, but he doesn't really see them becoming Weezer songs.

Cuomo also says he's unsure of having a solo career at this point, but he has been recording his new songs.

"I get on my crazy Japanese bike and ride for 10 minutes down to the mega-mall, and on the third floor they have all these studios you can rent for five bucks an hour, with drums and a soundboard and everything," he told MTV. "So I go in there and work, and when I'm done, I exit in the midst of a Japanese mega-mall."

But die-hard Weezer fans shouldn't have to fret just yet. There's speculation on the World Wide Web that the band's greatest hits album may be coming out later this year on Interscope Records and may contain songs such as "Undone-The Sweater Song," "Buddy Holly," "Say It Ain't So" and "Beverly Hills."

E! says Cuomo has denied these rumors saying Weezer doesn't have enough songs to release such a record.

But there is also hope for you fans. After Cuomo's MTV interview, the band's official Web site said, "Anyone expecting definite news may be let down, but by this point it should come as no surprise that the future of Weez remains, as always, unwritten."
