J-Lo Deal to Judge 'American Idol' Nearly Complete

Sources are revealing that Jennifer Lopez is now in the final stages of negotiations to become a judge on American Idol for next season. Negotiations had previously faltered in early August between Jennifer Lopez and American Idol because Lopez’s demands had apparently gone too far.

The 41-year-old singer and actress now seems in good position to ink the deal as early as next week. She will replace one of the two vacant judge’s seats left open by the departure of Ellen DeGeneres and Simon Cowell.

DeGeneres was criticized for her lack of music background and occasionally superficial critiques. Cowell departed to launch the American version of The X Factor in 2011.

Moreover, American Idol hopes that adding a star such as Jennifer Lopez will help garner the show better ratings, which have been slipping for the past few seasons.
