Jack Black, who voiced the title character in Kung Fu Panda (2008), has inspired the name of a panda cub.
The actor was recently at a zoo in Atlanta, GA for the naming ceremony of Po, a cub named after his character in Panda. The News Tribune reported that Black posed for pictures with the new arrival.
The real Po, a 10-pound cub, was the only panda born in a U.S. zoo in 2010. The species ranks high on the endangered list.
According to OnTheRedCarpet.com, Dreamworks, the studio which released the animated film, returned the gesture by donating money to the zoo’s panda conservation program.
The amount donated was not disclosed. The zoo pays $500,000 a year to China, where pandas are indigenous, to display the animals.
A sequel to Panda is set to be released May 27 with Black reprising his role. Angelina Jolie, Dustin Hoffman, and Jackie Chan are also reprising their voice roles from the first film.
