Jackson Almost Bankrupt Says Prosecutors
Michael Jackson may be "on the precipice of bankruptcy," according to prosecutors in his child molestation trial who asked Judge Rodney S. Melville Friday for access to Jackson's financial records. This comes as part of a hearing on motions. Jackson's accuser will take the stand again Monday.Prosecutors believe Jackson may have as much as $400 million in liabilities and that those debts "will come crashing down on him in December of 2005." They contend financial motives may have been behind Jackson's alleged conspiracy to hold the family of his accuser captive and get them to rebut a TV documentary that damaged his public image. The defense is fighting this request for access to financial records stating that what is at issue is the state of Jackson's financial affairs in February or March 2003, the time of the alleged conspiracy. This comes a day after Jackson was threatened with arrest and revoke of $3 million bail if he did not appear in court. The singer's attorneys told the court that Jackson had fallen and was in the emergency room with severe back pain. Jackson showed up just over an hour later wearing silk pajamas and a suit coat.In an ironic twist, Jackson's accuser stated he was wearing Jackson's pajamas when the pop star allegedly groped him two years ago. He described in graphic detail how Jackson had asked him if he had ever masturbated and then offered to "do it for me." The accuser also detailed one other incident in which Jackson fondled him and tried to get him to do the same to Jackson. The accuser's testimony ended Thursday after heated cross-examination by Jackson's attorney who tried to paint the boy as ungrateful for the things Jackson had done for him and his family.
