Jackson Doctor to Get Harsher Charges

Even eight months after the event, Michael Jackson’s death is still having repercussions. Some of the biggest ones are to his former doctor, Dr. Conrad Murray. On the day of Jackson’s death, Murray administered powerful drugs to help the pop star sleep. It was supposedly these drugs that led to his death. As a result, the doctor was going to be initially charged with involuntary manslaughter which has a maximum penalty of four years in jail. The Jackson family, however, is looking for more serious charges.

According to the Jackson family’s attorney, Brian Oxman, Murray was reckless in dispensing the powerful drugs to someone they knew could die from them. As a result, they are seeking a second-degree murder charge. One law enforcement official has said that prosecutors were planning to seek a grand jury indictment on the involuntary manslaughter charge with another official adding that they will also file a criminal complaint.

On the other side of the case, Conrad’s defense said that should he be charged, the doctor is ready to surrender to authorities, though they have yet to hear anything specific from the prosecutors. They are hoping to post bail and have him back working in his Houston, Texas practice. It is unknown what exactly the doctor will be charged with and what punishment he will receive, though the most likely one is the involuntary manslaughter charge.
