James Cameron's "Avatar" to Get the Grand Treatment

Theaters worldwide will participate in "Avatar Day" Friday by showing an extended preview of James Cameron's newest film.

It's a show of confidence to James Cameron's newest movie, "Avatar," when Twentieth Century Fox has decided to dedicate an entire day to the film months before it's release.

In a move unprecedented in movie marketing history, there will be an "Avatar Day" in theaters around the globe where they will show an extended preview of the film.

The preview, to be shown Friday, will contain the first 16 minutes of the film, as well as a glimpse of video games, toys, and 3D posters connected with the film. 58 countries will be showing the footage with 342 screens internationally and 102 screens domestically.

Tickets were being offered on Craigslist on Thursday for $40. Ebay was also selling a pair of tickets for $1000. Some of the footage being shown was already seen at Comic Con, but there is a fair amount that is new.

"Avatar" is set to be released December 2009 and is about a group of humans who embody avatars to explore an unsafe planet. It is Cameron's first film since 1997 Oscar winning film "Titanic."
