James Mitchell, best known for his role on All My Children, died on Friday in Los Angeles.

The actor had been suffering from heart disease for some years now, and his recent case of pneumonia seemed to trigger the worst.

Mitchell, who was born in Sacramento, graduated from Los Angeles City College with a degree in Theater. He had parts on Broadway for a short time, and he also had a spot dancing with the American Ballet Theater before moving on to teach dance at Yale University and Drake University.

Mitchell also had small roles in movie musicals like The Band Wagon and Deep In My Heart before turning to television.

His role as Palmer Cortlandt kept him on All My Children from 1979-2008. His last television appearance was for the 40th Anniversary episode of the show early in January.

RIP. I never paid much attention to this soap opera, so I am not sure who he was exactly. Hope the best for his family.
