Jane Fonda Joins Anti-War Protest
Jane Fonda joined tens of thousands of anti-war protestors in Washington, D.C. on Saturday. "I haven't spoken at an anti-war rally in 34 years, but silence is no longer an option," she said while onstage speaking to the crowd.
Fonda, now 69, was well-known three decades ago for her outspoken anti-war beliefs on Vietnam. She was even called "Hanoi Jane" by conservatives for her decision to travel to North Vietnam during the conflict.
Fonda said she was glad to see that the American spirit was "alive and well." In comparing today's protest to those of the Vietnam War, Fonda said the difference is the number of servicemen and women in Iraq.
Other famous faces at the protest were Susan Sarandon, Sean Penn, Tim Robbins, Danny Glover, and the Reverend Jesse Jackson.
The protest was scheduled after President Bush announced he would be sending over 20,000 more troops to Iraq.
