Jane Fonda Says Offensive Word on NBC

Actress Jane Fonda used a slang term for the word vagina when talking about "The Vagina Monologues."

According to the Associated Press, Jane Fonda accidentally used an offensive term on NBC's Today show Thursday. The 70-year-old actress was talking about the play, The Vagina Monologues, in which Fonda makes an appearance for its 10th-anniversary performance. The word Fonda used on the air is a slang term for vagina.

Approximately 10 minutes after the word left the celebrity's lips, co-host of the show, Meredith Vieira, apologized to viewers on behalf of Today and Fonda. This is not the first incident NBC has encountered that required a public apology.

NBC has recently apologized for certain comments made by guests Chris Matthews and David Shuster as well.

Jane Fonda has won two Academy Awards during her acting career. She is also a writer, political activist, former fashion model and fitness guru. She announced her retirement in 1991 but has since returned to the big screen.
