Janet Jackson Speaks on the passing of her brother

Janet Jackson opens up to Harper's Bazaar.

Janet has mad very few statements publicly since the death of older brother Michael Jackson. In the upcoming October issue of Harper's Bazaar, Janet opens up in an interview. Janet was on the set of a new Tyler Perry film she is working on in Atlanta, Ga. when she heard the tragic news.

"It's really hard to believe he's passed," Janet told Harpers Bazaar in her first interview since the loss of her brother. Janet flew back to Atlanta to return to shooting her film after the memorial. She recalls seeing Michael last on May 14 at a family gathering where they joked about Thai food.

Mainly, Janet is focusing on the memories she has of her brother. "When Mother would go out of town, she'd say, 'I'm leaving you in charge. Take care of Mike.' I would head home from school, see what he needed, then go straight to the stores," she told Harper's Bazaar.

On Sunday night at the MTV Video Music Awards, Janet plans to honor her late brother during a special appearance.
