January 22nd: The end of O’Brien?
People.com is reporting that January 22nd will most likely be Conan O’Brien’s last night with The Tonight Show. The online magazine has claimed that a source close to O’Brien has confirmed that, “Conan does not currently plan on doing anymore shows after next week.”
According to ESPN.com’s Bill Simmons, this is no joke. This morning, under his Twitter name sportsguy33, the Page2 columnist Tweeted, “FYI: Next week is Conan's final week hosting the Tonight Show. His staff is trying to book big guests so he goes out with a bang. It's true.“
Despite the rumors, MSNBC.com reports that representatives for both shows have declined to comment. The website also reports that O’Brien’s guests for next week, Colin Firth, Joss Stone, Paul Bettany, and Barry Manilow have already been booked.
In the meantime, Leno, O’Brien, and Kimmel continue to capitalize on the situation with no shortage of jokes at NBC’s expense. Whatever happens next, at least we can all be thankful that David Letterman’s sex life has finally become old news.
