Jason Schwartzman Signs On to HBO Comedy Pilot

Bored to Death is about a struggling writer who becomes a private detective on a whim.

Jason Schwartzman has signed on to star in HBO's comedy pilot called Bored to Death, which greatly increases its likelihood of being picked up.

The script was written by Jonathan Ames, and centers on Jonathan (Schwartzman), who is a struggling writer teetering on the verge of alcoholism in Brooklyn. Unhappy about the state of his life following the split with his girlfriend, Jonathan decides to quit writing and follow his heroes for the novels of Raymond Chandler and Dashiell Hammett. He takes out an ad in the classifieds pretending to be a private detective and begins to take cases.

While it seems like he wouldn't be able to solve any, Jonathan manages to solve quite a few, but also makes others much worse.

Production on the pilot will begin in September, the same month which calls for Schwartzman to begin filming Judd Apatow's Funny People. The film will also star Adam Sandler, Seth Rogan and Eric Bana.
