Jay Leno Takes His Final Bow on "Tonight Show"

Jay Leno says goodbye to "Tonight Show," handing his torch down to new host Conan O'Brien.

After 17 years and 3,800 performances, Jay Leno said his final goodbye to the "Tonight Show" on Friday.

According to the New York Daily News, Conan O'Brien will follow Leno, who succeeded Johnny Carson as the host on the show in 1992.

Leno gave thanks to Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Monica Lewinsky and Michael Jackson for providing him with so much comedic material, reported The New York Times.

According to Reuters, Leno will now appear in the fall on an NBC show similar to the "Tonight Show" at 10 p.m. His new show is expected to draw in a wider audience close to 5 million viewers, reported Reuters.

During Leno's final week on the "Tonight Show," ratings increased by approximately 21 percent, reported The New York Times. His second-to-last show went up 33 percent.

Leno's last musical guest was friend, James Taylor, who sang "Sweet Baby James," a song that Leno had reportedly requested, according to The New York Times.

The show also hosted a parade of 68 children, all who were born to people who had met because they worked on the program, reported the New York Daily News.
