Jay-Z's 4-0/40 Club may face charges after a waitress claims she was forced to work only for tips, a violation of federal labor laws.
According to the New York Daily News, Celeste Williams filed a lawsuit Tuesday on behalf of herself and others, including bartenders, table clearers, and waiters.
The lawsuit alleges Jay-Z and co-owner Juan Perez "willfully fail[ed] and refus[ed] to pay [the workers] at the legally required minimum wage for all hours worked and time and a half rates for work in excess of forty hours per workweek."
Williams's attorney said other employees at the club are afraid to file claims like Williams's. Club spokesman Ron Berkowitz, however, claims "everyone makes the minimum wage at the club, 100 percent."
