Rapper and entrepreneur Jay-Z announced Monday that he will return to his home city of New York to perform a charity concert in September, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The concert, called "Answer the Call," will take place on Sept. 11 at Madison Square Garden. All proceeds from ticket and merchandise sales will go to the New York Police and Fire Widows' and Children's Benefit Fund.
The concert will happen on the same day as the release of Jay-Z's eleventh studio album, "Blueprint 3."
"I turned the TV on September 12 and I saw footage of these heroic actions, people running to buildings and saving each other and I saw the strength of New York," Jay-Z said at an organized press conference. "It made me proud. So, as I was embarking on putting out 'Blueprint 3,' it was only right that we revisit that day. This is my chance to do something to help out."
The concert will be televised live on Fuse TV, one of the sponsors of the event.
Jay-Z released the first album in this trilogy, "The Blueprint," on Sept. 11, 2001.
