Jay-Z’s 99 problems may not include women, but business ventures are a whole different ballgame.
The Toronto Sun reported the “Empire State of Mind” rapper’s club, the 40/40 Club, is under a little heat after a health inspector found a faulty refrigerator Thursday.
According to Health Department sources, the investigator found perishable foods sitting in warm temperatures and spoiling away. Sources also said “hot” food was discovered laying on the counter and a cook was seen preparing salsa with his bare hands.
Fox News reported the health code violation news came just one day after the club’s $10 million relaunch.
The refrigerator’s temperature measured at 60 degrees, when it was supposed to be at 41 degrees, while it was holding a slew of perishable meats including 50 pounds of raw chicken wings, five pounds of raw shrimp and 100 turkey burger patties.
Meanwhile, there were five pounds of cooked mash potatoes sitting at 89 degrees, 10 pounds of cooked rice and 50 turkey burgers sitting at 67 degrees. To meet health codes, the food should have been at 140 degrees.
40/40 Club’s restaurant was immediately closed following the inspections, but those who were eating at the moment were allowed to continue their meals.
“If you have a walk-in place with food like this, you put a hell of a lot of people at risk,” a source said. “A night of dinner and dancing should not include the risk of contracting food-borne illness.”
However, the club has since fixed all the issues and was allowed to open its doors again Saturday night.
