J.D. Salinger Dies

The author of ‘The Catcher in the Rye’ dies at age 91

J.D. Salinger, the popular author best known for his 1951 book ‘The Catcher in the Rye’ has died at age 91 at his home in Cornish, New Hampshire. The author’s son confirmed that he died on Wednesday, but the cause of death was not reported.

‘The Catcher in the Rye’ has become a classic as it tells that story of a 16-year-old boy who chooses to run away rather than get expelled from his boarding school. Many generations have been able to identify with and appreciate the tale about growing up and coming to understanding with a world that doesn’t always make sense. ‘The Catcher in the Rye’ is perhaps one of the most recognized titles of classic literature today.

Though Salinger enjoyed success in the literary world, he preferred to stay out of the spotlight, and he avoided the media and other people. ‘The Catcher in the Rye’ is his only novel that was published. Though he did publish some short stories, the most recent one appeared in the New Yorker in 1965.
