Jennifer Lawrence is certainly having an impressive breakout year. The actress was nominated for an Oscar at this year’s Academy Awards for her lead role in Winter’s Bone.
Now, she has reportedly landed the role of Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games, a role that has been up for grabs for some time in a film that has many fans anxiously awaiting its release.
According to The Wrap, details about Lawrence’s involvement with the film were discussed earlier this week, and they reportedly made a deal yesterday which stated that the role would definitely go to Lawrence. She also reportedly agreed to be involved with the whole franchise which includes two more films after The Hunger Games, Catching Fire and Mockingjay.
MTV reports that news of this casting is still unconfirmed, and if a deal really has been made, it certainly happened not long ago.
For some time, there have been several actresses in the mix to play Katniss. Lawrence was a top choice as well as Abigail Breslin and Hailee Steinfeld, who have both been nominated for Academy Awards as well. The major issue involved with casting the role was the age of the actress because the character in the popular book is 15-years-old, so the film would need an actress who looked the part and could act the part.
Katniss Everdeen is an incredibly strong character in a book about a corrupt government that has designed a deadly game where teens compete in a competition to the death each year.
Katniss must team up with a childhood acquaintance, Peeta, to survive. The role of Peeta is another that filmmakers are attempting to cast, and Alex Pettyfer and Hunter Parrish are reportedly names that have been mentioned to play him.
