Jennifer Lopez: Her take on life
Would never consider in vitro fertilization:
Lopez, 40, didn’t turn to science to make the miracle of birth a reality. She said she’s “quite traditional” and just let nature do its job.
“I also believe in God and I have a lot of faith in that, so I just felt like you don’t mess with things like that,” she said. “And I guess deep down I really felt either this is not going to happen for me or it is.”
Competing with young pop idols:
Lopez isn’t worried about competing with younger stars because age is just a number.
“Being an artist doesn’t start because you’re 21, and it doesn’t end because you’re 51,” she expressed. “You are who you are until the day you die.”
And who she is, is an artist. “This is what I do,” she said, explaining that she is “more heightened” now and wants everything she ever wanted “twice as much now.”
On suddenly being in the spotlight:
Lopez said Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor “didn’t realize what she was going to symbolize” and compared the experience to her role as Selena.
“You’re thrown out there, and all of a sudden you’re not anonymous,” she said. “You are known. And that’s a lot to handle. It’s scary at first. Then you get used to it.”
Betrayals:
It’s something she’s experienced “a few times” in her life, she said. She used the word “tormented” to describe the betrayals, but explained it’s still hard to let go.
“Even though you’ve done this and I know it, I still don’t know what to do,” Lopez said. “I know I should go, but I don’t want to. And that’s why it’s such a f***ed-up thing.”
