Jerry Lewis Telethon Will Help Gustav Victims Too

It will raise money for two causes.

According to Access Hollywood, the 43rd Annual Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon has made plans to help Gustav victims, before the storm even crashes into the Gulf coast.

In a statement, Lewis said that he will be asking viewers to not only donate to help expand Muscular Dystrophy research, but also for money for the Salvation Army's Emergency Disaster Service helping those in need.

Also, as the MDA has a reported 5,000 registered families in the areas that are planning for the effect of Gustav, the comedian is letting families who are registered with the MDA and are being forced to evacuate know that they can seek out MDA services wherever they end up.

Sunday night at 9 p.m. EDT, the telethon began and is scheduled to have a number of celebrities as co-hosts, like Access's Nancy O'Dell, as well as well-known acts like Kid Rock and Celine Dion.
